With the impact of COVID-19 reaching far and wide, many organizations face the urgent challenge of rapidly bringing their face-to-face training programs into the digital world; whether through eLearning, virtual classrooms, or other digital solutions. This new COVID-19 award category recognizes their achievements in facing the challenges of the pandemic.

Madelon Panman is Manager of Erasmus MC Academy and the team that delivered the AskErasmus MC solution: “It is a great honor to win this award. Not only for the work we did within our hospital but also for the healthcare professionals across the Netherlands who jumped to cope with the sudden increased demand for care.”

Information, at every moment of need

The challenge was how to quickly equip new, existing, and returning staff of paramedics, doctors, nurses, and caregivers with the skills to tend to the ever-increasing number of patients in new COVID-19 Units, Emergency Rooms, and ICUs. It was clear that traditional ways of upskilling with classroom training, e-modules, practical work assignments, and coaching on the job were not going to work with the new coronavirus restrictions and the enormous time pressures.

Erasmus MC Academy decided that a performance support solution with a 5 Moment of Need learning approach would answer their challenge. On approval from the Erasmus Board of Directors, Erasmus MC Academy and Xprtise set about building the Ask Erasmus MC workplace learning solution.

In just ten days, the innovative learning and performance solution AskErasmus MC was prepared, providing nine key healthcare roles the skills and preparation needed to work in the Covid-19 pandemic. With AskDelphi as the performance support platform, and 5 Moments of Need as the learning approach, doctors, nurses, paramedics, and ICU staff, could obtain new and updated treatment and care practices in just two clicks or ten seconds in their flow of work.
