Efficiency in Healthcare: Transforming Workplace Learning and Performance Support with AI at Alrijne.
The Challenge
Alrijne faces the ongoing challenge of better supporting healthcare professionals and students in their daily work despite high workloads, staff shortages, and limited time for training. Following the success of the Digital Coach for surgical and anesthetic assistants, the recovery department also needed a workplace learning solution that provides task- and role-specific support during work. However, the traditional project approach requires a significant time investment from subject matter experts (SMEs), which was not feasible for the recovery department. Together, we sought an efficient solution focusing on streamlining the project approach, scaling up quickly, and reducing project timelines.
The Solution
In collaboration with Alrijne, we developed AskDelphi Designer AI, an AI-driven authoring environment. This tool accelerates workplace analyses by generating tasks, steps, and content directly from approved documents, protocols, and guidelines, all aligned with the principles of the 5 Moments of Need® methodology. This ensures high-quality, accurate, and efficient content for the Digital Coach, AskAlrijne. Employees can access relevant information at the moment they need it, whether guiding students or operating equipment in the recovery department.
The Impact
Future Plans
With AskDelphi Designer AI, Alrijne has taken an innovative step in applying AI within healthcare processes. This project serves as an inspiration for further applications both within and beyond the organization. It opens up opportunities to enhance workplace learning and scale processes. Xprtise will continue refining the tool, exploring whether AI can facilitate the automatic placement of content in AskDelphi, further reducing errors and strengthening AI’s role as a supporting technology—always keeping control within the organization.
“I was very enthusiastic about the Digital Coach for surgical assistants, but we didn’t have enough subject matter experts to implement it. With this new approach, we can. It’s amazing what is possible with AskDelphi Designer AI, not only in terms of speed but also the excellent quality! This will benefit us greatly.”
