Exploring the transition from classroom learning to workplace learning.
Classroom training is still the most commonly chosen learning method for many companies, but training alone is no longer enough! ASML wanted to shift its traditional classroom training to a more performance-driven learning strategy. The goal? To provide employees with the right information at the moment of “need” and, in doing so, improve performance.
A three-day 5 Moments of Need® kick-off for twenty employees helped clarify how ASML can apply the 5 Moments of Need® methodology. Employees were trained in developing learning solutions that align with the five moments of learning need (such as new tasks, error resolution, and changes).
» From ‘training-focused’ to ‘performance-focused’: Employees can learn more efficiently, exactly when they need the information.
» Personalized learning solutions: Each employee gains access to the information they need in the right context.
» Measurable impact: The effectiveness of workplace learning is directly linked to work performance.
ASML plans to expand the use of the 5 Moments of Need® methodology to other departments. Several cohorts of the training have been completed, an alumni community has been established, and a collaborative effort is underway to explore what further is needed to implement the 5 Moments of Need® methodology across the three focus areas: people, processes, and technology.
By aligning the three focus areas—people, processes, and technology—we are enabling a transformative shift towards ‘performance-focused’ workplace learning solutions.
